OH EM GEE!!

Good Books + Good Music +Good Movie (please?) = Bliss
If there's one thing I can get as or more excited about than music it's a good book. especially if that book has nostalgic value to it. And, just sometimes, i forget that movies are hardly as good as books and when I see a nostalgic book about to be made into a movie that looks magical, I pretty much flip out. Imagine my excitement when I'm stumbling around stereogum and i see the new trailer for the upcoming movie, directed by Spike Jonze: Where the Wild Things Are. OH MY GOD. Is anyone else as excited as I am?

(Did I mention Arcade Fire is the trailer music? Wake up, indeed...)

yay!

MGMT

British women, calling themselves the Mentalists, perform a cover of MGMT's "Kids" using only iphone/ipod apps. These apps sound crazy awesome and fill me with an intense yearning for more technology i'll never take full advantage of.

They use an ocarina, a digi drummer lite, a retro synth, and a mini synth to perform an ubelievably good cover. Well done girls; I wish I was as cool as you.

Alela Diane

To Be Still 6.9

When I first heard of Alela Diane, I listened purely because it was fun to sing along to, her voice goes everywhere. But, as time went on, I realized that I couldn't stay away for more than a few days at a time. Her voice is more than just interesting, it's captivating, mesmerizing. Her songs are classic folk and her new album is a collection of stories.

a lot of the songs are remakes of older songs and they're all so much fuller and richer now.

i love her because i can become lost in her music. with headphones, i am in a completely different world.
